Spacing & seed quality
Printed on the seed packet or measured by weighing 1000 seeds.

How it's calculated
- Plants per acre = 4,046.86 m² ÷ (row spacing m × plant spacing m)
- Seeds to sow = plants × seeds per hill ÷ (germination × purity)
- Seed (kg) = seeds × test weight (g) ÷ 1,000 ÷ 1,000
Assumptions
Uniform square/rectangular spacing with no gaps for bunds or paths. Field emergence is often lower than lab germination — many growers add a small safety margin.
Worked example
1 acre at 60 × 20 cm → 33,724 plants; 1 seed/hill, 85% germination, 98% purity → 40,485 seeds; at 300 g/1000 seeds = 12.15 kg.
